THIS IS LUC VONCKEN
Luc is the Chief Executive Officer of CLIQ Digital and was born in 1970. He has over 20 years’ experience in digital media. During his early career he held several senior management positions with ING Bank and ABN AMRO Bank. In 2000, he started his first company which developed a game that could be played on the Internet as well as mobile phone. He was shareholder of Golden Bytes (aggregator of mobile connectivity, market leader in The Netherlands) and initiated the first SMS TV voting with Big Brother in The Netherlands. In 2003, Luc co-founded Blinck International BV and held the position of CEO. In 2010 Blinck merged with TMG into CLIQ BV where Luc held the position of Non-Executive Board member. In 2012, CLIQ BV merged with Bob Mobile AG to form CLIQ Digital AG. Luc holds a Master in Science in Business Economics.
Luc is a leader with operational excellence, but his true superpower is for sure his innovative and creative mindset. No way too long, no idea too big – this is him. And to get to know Luc even better, we asked him a few questions.
WHAT DID YOU WANT TO BECOME AS A KID?
A Show Master! Every time I see a big stage or show stairs, I’m ready to perform!
WHAT IS YOUR BIGGEST STRENGTH AND WHAT IS YOUR BIGGEST WEAKNESS?
My strength: I’m creative and a fast thinker. My weakness: impatience.
HOW DOES A REGULAR WORKDAY LOOK LIKE FOR YOU?
First thing early in the morning: I answer my E-mails, check the stats versus budget, approve invoices and vacation requests. Then I exercise, shower and walk to the office. There I have my first cup of coffee, look over the agenda and plan the key points for each meeting. I also plan the rest of the week. I conduct my meetings and schedule at least an hour each day to reflect on what’s going well and what could be optimized, mid-term strategy and progress versus budget plan. I enjoy lunch in the office, walk through the departments and talk to my Cliqers. During the day, I always try to clean my agenda by immediately answering my emails, WhatsApp or Teams chats. I don’t like it when people need to wait for my answer/opinion. At the end of the day, I walk back home.
WHAT WAS THE BIGGEST CHALLENGE YOU HAVE OVERCOME SO FAR?
Dealing with disappointments.
HOW DO YOU DEFINE SUCCESS?
Realizing the plan which got made, excuses are for losers!
WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE SOMEONE STARTING OUT AS AN ENTREPRENEUR?
Always having a plan B and C, but most of all: never give up realizing Plan A.
WHAT ARE YOU MOST PROUD OF REGARDING CLIQ?
I’m proud that at CLIQ Hollywood (marketing, sales and creativity) meets Silicon Valley (technology, business intelligence, financial driven direction).
WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME YOU CHANGED YOUR MIND ABOUT SOMETHING IMPORTANT?
Every day! If route 1 doesn’t work, I take route 2. Making decisions instead of doubting and waiting.
WHERE IS THE COMPANY TODAY VERSUS WHERE YOU THOUGHT IT WOULD HAVE BEEN 5 YEARS AGO?
CLIQ is today at a stage where we are starting to use branded marketing again, as in the old days, in addition to performance marketing. That’s a very interesting process and I love the mix!
WHAT MAKES YOU TRULY HAPPY?
Our streaming platform! Our consumer product is getting better every day and it makes me happy that we have the resources and the budget to make this all happen.
DESCRIBE HOW YOU ENVISION A REGULAR MONDAY IN 5 YEARS?
Still doing what I’m doing these days – my work is not only a job, it’s my hobby and passion.
