3 LESSONS I HAVE LEARNT IN OVER 15 YEARS AT CLIQ
Digital Insider
Sander Wesseling is one of CLIQ’s pioneers who has been with the company almost since the beginning. He joined CLIQ in September 2005, is very familiar with all departments and has, during his exciting journey, become Director of Operations. In this role, he oversees the Technology team, the Business Intelligence team, the Mobile Billing team and all the in-house and external Card Payment Teams. Plus, he works closely with the Performance Marketing colleagues on all aspects of the business.
Since Sander has been part of CLIQ for more than 15 years, we thought it was time to ask him about the 3 top lessons he has learnt over the years. Not an easy choice, according to him, as the company has consistently improved, adjusted, and grown.
HERE ARE SANDER’S TOP THREE LESSONS IN OVER 15 YEARS AT CLIQ:
LESSON #1
“The most important thing I’ve learned at CLIQ is that you can’t sail your boat on good luck. Success can only be achieved if you consistently give it your best. We can’t hope to be at the right place at the right time – you need to be persistent and make sure you are there when the magic happens.”
LESSON #2
“Loyalty pays off! At CLIQ, I have found that, besides motivation and persistence, loyalty is an important asset to any company. It’s that core group of people who know the business inside out and steer accordingly based on the right metrics. I’m actually proud of the fact that CLIQ is a company that rewards heart for the company and passion for your beliefs. These rewards are easily reflected in the organizational chart, which is generally fed from the bottom up.
I guess I can say I’m one of the examples of this CLIQ fundament. Starting in 2005 as a junior media buyer for TV airtime to Director of Operations in 2019 has been a great journey for me personally.”
LESSON #3
“Business is not personal! While doing our business, you keep things in mind and the management team always considers (individual) circumstances.
In order to drive business and create healthy and long-lasting partnerships, you can’t always get what you want. Being able to make concessions while keeping the long term in mind is a great asset to have. There can be no losers in a partnership or delivery of projects. In the end, we all have the same goal. That goal can be tactical, operational or strategic, but during the process, concessions need to be made to make sure the outcome is in line with everybody’s expectations.”
HIS CLOSING WORDS
“The years I’ve been at CLIQ have been truly amazing. The learning curve was steep, and trust needs to be earned. During all these years I don’t recall a day that I haven’t felt proud of being part of the CLIQ Family.
We’ve faced a lot of sunshine but had our occasional storms as well, and we got through it together as a team. This proves to me that anything can be done as long as you believe in yourself and the team around you.
At CLIQ, we have come a long way, and I’m 101% convinced we will go much further by following our ambition and living up to that ambition with persistence, loyalty and passion!”
