Hoang-Minh Luu has been an integral part of CLIQ since 2015, helping to shape the company’s billing operations. Originally from France, Hoang-Minh moved to Amsterdam in 2007 and, after a decade in the city, relocated to Almere to raise a family.

Known for his organisational skills, attention to detail, and ability to communicate effectively, Hoang-Minh contributes significantly to the success of CLIQ.
In this interview, we learn more about Hoang-Minh’s career journey and personal life.
As a kid, I dreamed of becoming a fighter pilot to fly around in jets. Unfortunately, my poor eyesight closed that door. I also had a passion for tennis and briefly considered it as a possible career, but the reality is that I was too far from making it to the best in the world. So, the reasonable thing was to keep on studying to get a degree and a more ‘conventional’ career.
I believe my biggest strength is my ability to understand complex problems and break them down to solve them. My biggest weakness is impatience: I tend to want things to happen quickly, which can lead to frustration. I am actively working on it though, and have found that age, experience, and parenting a young child have helped me develop a lot more patience!
I like to start my workday early when it’s still quiet, so I can focus without distractions. I usually know beforehand which top 3 priorities to tackle in the morning, so if there is no new emergency from the previous night, I review the sales numbers and the daily reports from the BI team.
We then have a daily stand-up/catch-up with the billing team and one of the tech teams to align priorities and holdups. This clarifies what needs to happen for the rest of the day, and I move on to other meetings and operational work.
On most days, I will also have a catch-up call with Rudy, our Business Development Director, to keep in touch with our Paris office and the Commercial side of the business. I also talk to Sander, our Service Director, about our operational topics daily.
One of my biggest challenges was moving from France to the UK at the age of 17, for university. It was a tough adjustment to be away from home, friends and my native language. However, this experience made me fluent in English much quicker than in school and taught me invaluable lessons about independence.
To me, success is about making progress every day – doing better today than I did yesterday. I believe in incremental but continuous improvement. I also believe in enjoying the journey; what’s the point if you’re not finding joy in what you do?
Billing is at the core of our business at CLIQ. Without it, we would not be able to let our customers pay for their content. This means that the Billing team is involved in most projects, and we get to collaborate with all the teams across the company: Tech, Commercial, BI, Service, and Licensing, just to name a few. I love being part of projects that have a direct impact on our business.
I can’t pinpoint an exact moment, but I’m always open to changing my mind when presented with compelling data or facts. I believe in letting evidence guide my decisions.
On the personal side, spending quality time with my family and friends, travelling, and exploring new countries and cultures. On the professional side, making a meaningful impact and contributing to the success of CLIQ!
Predicting the future in our ever-changing industry is challenging looking five years back, I would not have expected to be where we are today. Five years from now, Mondays will still be at CLIQ, hopefully. I’m closing into my 10th year, so another five should be gone in the blink of an eye. I imagine still having my morning routines in place to tackle whatever challenge we’ll be facing then, supported by a great team of colleagues.
I really like the extensive library of audiobooks available on our portals. When I find the time, I like to listen to business-related or ‘self-improvement’ titles like “Think Like a Monk” by Jay Shetty.
