Born and raised in South Africa, Wesley Wiborg discovered a love for adventure early on, a passion that would eventually lead him across continents. After his initial travel to Europe ignited a desire for new experiences, he moved to the Netherlands in 2021 with his fiancé, now his wife. His career in South Africa included roles as an Auditor and later as Finance Manager at the country’s largest craft brewery.
Later, he co-founded a startup but decided to relocate to Europe. At CLIQ, he now leads a team as Head of Project Management, tackling daily challenges and exploring opportunities for growth. In this article, we learn more about his career and personal life.
Driven by my childhood obsession with the masked hero, Zorro, I dreamed of nothing more than donning a mask, wielding a sword, and galloping on a horse to fight injustice. By the age of seven, however, my focus shifted towards the business world. I became fascinated with every aspect of it, from sales to finance. Growing up, I eagerly helped sell goods at markets and assisted in my father’s furniture store. My early involvement in the business and helping my mother with her bookkeeping eventually inspired me to pursue formal studies and qualify as a Chartered Accountant.
I have the ability to quickly identify a problem and swiftly pivot to finding a solution. It’s rare to find someone who can talk as much as I can, but I’m actively working on improving my listening skills and encouraging others to share their input. After all, if you’re always talking, how can you ever learn something new?
Aside from my daily indulgence in a perfectly brewed cup of coffee—yes, I’m a bit of a coffee snob—no two days at CLIQ are ever the same for me. I lead a team of five exceptional individuals who manage projects within CLIQ, each day bringing its own unique challenges. I support my team as needed and ensure that robust systems for reporting project progress and addressing challenges are in place. You’ll often find me tackling broader company challenges, focusing on bringing stability, refining processes, and establishing a unified way of working that we all embrace.
I believe success isn’t about avoiding failure or never making mistakes; it’s about learning and growing from them. True success comes from improving yourself each day and maintaining a positive attitude, regardless of setbacks or mistakes.
Failing to plan is planning to fail—it’s as simple as that. Proper scoping, well-developed business cases, and honest, realistic timelines should form the foundation of any successful project. When paired with clear communication and effective management of stakeholder expectations, these elements ensure that projects are completed on time and meet all acceptance criteria.
Taking on the responsibility of managing all projects within CLIQ is a significant challenge, but with the right team, the right tools, and a clear, company-wide alignment on our way of working, we can overcome any obstacle!
Nothing springs to mind currently, but I believe that in order to grow your knowledge and keep evolving, it’s important to avoid a fixed or closed mindset. A fixed mindset makes you believe that your abilities and knowledge can’t change, which limits your growth. This can lead to complacency, resistance to new ideas, and a reluctance to step out of your comfort zone. A closed mindset can also make you dismiss new perspectives, stopping you from fully exploring new possibilities.
I enjoy spending quality time with my loved ones, including my pets, a 22-year-old African Grey Parrot named Grom and a 1-year-old Maltipoo named Merlin.
Immersing myself in nature is a passion of mine, which is why I find surfing and snowboarding so exhilarating. I also enjoy baking and have a keen interest in motorcycles, both of which offer their own unique thrills and satisfaction.
I hope to determine and implement solutions to new challenges for multiple aspects of the business, only this time with an additional 5 years of experience.
My favourite type of content is movies, I can be a real Lord of the Rings or Harry Potter geek.
